Hatameki
A moment to unwind in the city.
Situated near Kiyosumi Gardens, Hatameki is a cafe serving shio-koji seasoned dishes like minced-pork lu rou fan and tandoori chicken, rustic carrot cake, and spiced ginger drinks.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Set in an old nagaya rowhouse near Kiyosumi Gardens, Hatameki serves satisfying savory plates seasoned with shio-koji (fermented rice-malt seasoning). Options include a minced-pork lu rou fan lifted by gentle spicing and shio-koji, as well as fragrant shio-koji tandoori chicken, each accompanied by a soothing miso soup ball that dissolves in hot broth. Diners who wish to try both main dishes can order the aimori plate, which brings the two together on a single platter.
For dessert or a quiet cafe break, the kitchen turns to baked goods and house-made beverages. The carrot cake, finished with a playful small flag, features a soft, fluffy crumb balanced by rich cream cheese frosting. Seasonal offerings such as lemon or kabocha cheesecakes and tarts share the menu with distinctive drinks, including ginger tea mixed with spiced syrup scented with cinnamon and cardamom, as well as mellow ginger milk.
The compact interior holds just a few tables and counter seats, enveloped in a calm atmosphere decorated with small craft goods and picture books. Ordering and payment take place up front at the entrance counter before sitting down, an arrangement that feels effortless even for solo visitors. It works equally well for a grounding lunch midway through a neighborhood walk or a peaceful afternoon stop for tea and sweets.
